The Canvas for this ale is a white IPA utilizing a blend of white wheat, 2-Row pale ale, and honey malts. A fusion of Cascade, Centennial, and CTZ hops were used to balance the malt with an array of floral and citrus aromas. And finally, we added Sweet Orange Peel and Blood Orange puree to give it citrus notes and a deep orange color like the FC Cincinnati fans by which it was inspired.

My Thoughts On The Beer

This a very deep, dark muddy orange color when you pour it into your beer glass.  It’s not bright and clear like the west coast IPAs that have dominated our shelves for a long time, but when you stick your nose in to start exploring you’ll be graced with a juicy orange aroma that is complimented with just a hint of floral hop notes to remind you that you’ve got a beer in front of you and not a glass of juice.

The beer tastes amazing.  The profile is certainly full of that juicy citrus that you’ll be expecting, but there’s a nice slight bitter bite behind it.  My favorite part of this beer is the addition of wheat, which beefs up the body of the beer making it all come together really nicely.  The went through a few different recipe formulations to settle on the latest, and I think they’ve really found the sweet spot for it.

This is just another example of some of the really great stuff that Moerlein has been putting out recently – you don’t have to be sitting in the stands at a FC Cincinnati game to enjoy what they’ve done with it…it’ll fit into your beer drinking schedule whenever you want it to!
