Reinheitsgebot! It’s the law, the German Beer Purity Law of 1516. Nothing but malt, hops, yeast, and water. Christian Moerlein was the first American beer to certifiably pass the German Purity Law known as Reinheitsgebot. Today, Moerlein Purity Pils is brewed to these standards – serving up a clean and refreshing full-bodied taste with a hoppy, lemon zest aroma.

My Thoughts On The Beer:

2016 Marked the 500th Anniversary of the Rineheitsgebot, or German Purity Law.  The Christian Moerlein Brewing company used the opportunity not only to celebrate their past (They were the first brewery in the United Sates to brew a beer to certifiably pass the purity law) but to pay homage to their German Heritage as well.

They brewed a Pilsner that is crafted using only water, hops, malt and yeast.  The result Purity does it’s job very well, while still being a great beer.  They describe it as clean and refreshing, and that’s the best description of what the beer is.

Pouring a bright yellow color with a small fizzy white head, it’s aromas of floral and slight fruit give you a hint at what you’re going to taste when you dig in with your first sip.

The flavors are refreshing indeed… More of the floral hoppy notes, and an underlying fruity zest that finishes super clean on the palate, this is a beer that begs for a summer afternoon poolside.  A beautiful homage to the past of Christian Moerlein packaged in a delicous beer that stands up today alongside some of the great pilsners that we have at our fingertips.
