Christian Moerlein established his brewery in Cincinnati’s Over-a The-Rhine Brewery district in 1853.  Next, in 1981 Hudepohl Brewing Company introduces Christian Moerlein as one of the pioneer craft beers of today’s craft beer movement.  Today we bring you Third Wave IPA – an aggressively hopped India Pale Ale bursting with floral aromas and hints of citrus flavor.  Brewed with legacy for the future of our craft.

My Thoughts On The Beer:

This was brewed by Christian Moerlein to be an aggressive IPA full of hop forward notes as a salute to the American IPA that has pushed craft beer forward in this “Third Wave” of the Christian Moerlein lifetime.  I have to say that they have achieved their goal with flying colors.

This beer pours a nice coppery orange color in the glass, with a big foamy white head perched on top.  The beer lets loose with aromas of fruity hops and an underlying herbal grassiness that will make the heart of any hophead flutter with anticipation.

Floral Hop flavors dance with a citrusy notes all rolling around in a big dank, sticky presence.  This is held together with a slight caramel sweetness behind it all.  It’s a great salute to the American IPA, and a great way to exibit the transition of the Christian Moerlein Brewing Company into the next stage of their brewery’s life.
