It’s that time of year… I’m hitting the dark beer hard. Maybe it’s embracing the approaching winter, maybe I’ve just been knocking back a lot of lagers, whatever it is – I am all about stereotypical dark beers right now. It’s fitting that this week’s episode of Prost featured FigLeaf’s Ponderous porter, right?

I’m lucky, with this current obsession, that this weekend happens to be March First’s Stout Blowout, an event that they’ve been putting on for the last few years as a quasi-beer-festival, full-on dark beer celebration. It’s happening tomorrow, 11/21 from noon until 10pm – and I want to make sure that you know all you need to know about it.

About The Event

I joke that it’s a quasi-beer-festival because it’s not a festival in the traditional sense. Even aside from 2020 destroying the idea of what a traditional beer festival is, this event has always been a little bit different. You don’t buy a ticket and show up, standing in line at booths to drink your little sample of a beer. This is a celebration of dark beer… of stouts. I’m not talking about all “serious stouts” either. You’ll see in a minute, but there are some really fun exploratory things going on tap – which is important. It brings me to what the whole point of this is.

The entire point of this day is to hang out, properly distanced, with your friends or other stout fans and drink some great beer. But it’s also a brilliant reminder of what makes craft beer so much fun. You can enjoy a fantastic Imperial Stout in one minute and than a French Fry Frostie stout in the next. You can smile, you can laugh… it’s beer, after all. We need events like this to ground us to that idea, beer is fun.

You can buy any of the stouts on tap in 5oz samples for $3. If you need more than one or two (who doesn’t?) you can get 10 of them for $25.

Pick what you want, drink what you want… hang out. Not interested in drinking stout beer? No worries. The taproom and both patios are open, and you can hang out and drink whatever you want. Don’t forget that March First produces great dark beer, light beer, hoppy beer, cider, seltzer, booze… it’s all there for you to enjoy.

That brings up a great point, too – the beer.
