Cincy Brewcast Volume 1 Episode 7

We went into this show without planning on much, other than talking about what we had been up to this week, and what had been going on with Cincinnati beer.  We were also testing a new shorter format for the show after some feedback that we might need to shorten things up a bit…

From The Beer FridgeOur “From the Beer Fridge” segment saw us tasting quite a few beers, some we loved…some not so much.

  • Saltwater Brewery – Sea Cow Milk Stout
  • MadTree – Citra High
  • Warped Wing – Self Starter Session IPA
  • The Old Firehouse – Probie Porter
  • West Sixth – Belgian Style Blonde
  • Sixpoint – Jammer Gose

I’m not going to spoil the fun and tell you what we liked and didn’t like, you’ll have to listen for that.

We talked about MadTree’s Citra High release, and what might be on the horizon from them… and the upcoming Sol Drifter release at the brewery.

There was some discussion about Mt.Carmel… Where they’ve come from, and even more importantly, where they are going… There are a lot of exciting things going on out there (Stay tuned for a post on all that in the coming weeks)

Cincinnati beer week changed dates, we talked about that of course for a little bit, and then moved on into the recent talk about open container districts in the city…

The big topic of the day was the state of craft beer in our “other” tourist attractions… Mainly the Cincinnati Zoo and Kings Island.  With Kings Island making the move in recent years to embrace local beer with the addition of the Christian Moerlein beer garden, and even more so this year with three exclusive beers and a beer festival, we brought up the question of why the zoo has such a lack of craft beer offerings, let alone local beer… Why have some of our longer term tourist attractions failed to embrace our local beer scene?  It will be really exciting in the next few years to see how that changes around town.

We again broadcast this week’s show live via Periscope and were very happy with the results, so if you weren’t one of the people who tuned in, keep an eye on Twitter where we’ll let you know when we are going to be live again!
