Not a ray of light penetrates the soul of this beer. Combining the roasted malt backbone of a Porter with a huge amount of earthy and citrusy hops typical in many IPA’s, this unique IBA will leave you questioning its identity and maybe yours.

I am certain that this tops the list of favorite local beers for a lot of people across Cincinnati.  Identity crisis may not know what it “is” – but I can tell you a little bit that might help you form your own opinions.

It’s not a Porter…not really a Black IPA.  Certainly not a “light” anything… MadTree Identity Crisis is one thing for sure though… delicious.  Pouring into your glass an extremely dark brown, almost a deep black in the right lighting, the big thick dark brown head emanates a pungent hop aroma that lets you know this is no ordinary beer before you even get a chance to sip away at it.  Hidden behind the hops is a full blown porter personality that is begging to come out… lots of toasty chocolate aromas are waiting to be found.

The flavor of this beauty is full of big… no… giant flavors of a resiny hop flavor that is punctuated by a bitter roasty coffee and chocolate character that doesn’t compete with it’s IPA side of it’s personality.  All this is topped off by a wonderfully big mouthfeel.  This is the type of beer that by it’s very nature, lends itself to sitting back and sipping at, while you contemplate both its very existence and yours at the same time.

Wonderful.
