Things are never quiet here in Cincinnati, that’s one thing that remains certain in the life of a beer blogger.  Here I am in the midst of trying to keep up with Cincinnati beer week and out comes a fantastic announcement from Covington’s Braxton Brewing company – another new beer!  On top of a new seasonal beer, the brewery has an announcement about crowlers that will make a lot of us pretty happy too!

Onward!

Braxton SummertripSummertrip

If you were a fan of their release on their first anniversary, called Yesterday’s Headlines, this one will most likely be right up your alley.  This 4% ABV, 4 IBUs Berliner Weisse is designed for sipping in the sunshine –  Here’s what the brewery has to say about their summer seasonal, called ‘Summertrip’:

When the weather overheated like a radiator on the fritz, it was time to step out of the garage and head somewhere cool to relax.  We found every excuse to celebrate those dog days with our family and friends, because it reminded us that summer isn’t a season, it’s a state of mind.  Introducing Summertrip, a lively beer brewed to let loose and live up those days that never seem to end.

This kettle soured German style ale features 50% wheat malt and is balanced with the use of lactobacillus.  Very little to no hop presence allow the bready/biscuit characteristics to come through, with a nice tart Passion Fruit finish.

If that doesn’t scream summertime to you, I’m not sure that there is a beer description that ever will.  They are tapping the beer in “the garage” this Friday, June 24th at 5:30 pm – so make sure you head over to Facebook and share the event with all your friends, mark your calendar and start getting ready to celebrate the season!

Braxton CrowlersCrowlers in Covington

Not one to be satisfied with one announcement at a time, Braxton is kicking things up a notch in their taproom take home arena as well.  They are eliminating traditional glass howlers and replacing them with 32oz aluminum crowlers.

A howler is a big beer can, purged with co2, filled with beer then sealed up much like your traditional cans of beer would be.  It’s an extreme vessel, perfected to store beer with as few outside influences after filling as possible.  Recyclable, able to go places glass might not be allowed, protected from light and oxygen… Crowlers are no joke for beer geeks.

The crowlers will be making their debut on Friday, June 24th alongside the release of Summertrip, so if you’re planning a summer trip or a pool day of your own – timing seems to be perfect to fill up one of these puppies!
