You’ve made a discovery – a Golden Helles from the original Lager House build by Christian Moerlein in Cincinnati’s Brewery District over 150 years ago. Today, Moerlein Lager House is brewed to the same standards that declared it the first American Brew to pass the Reinheitsgebot Purity Law. This Munchner-styled Helles is a balanced lager featuring a lightly toasted, yet defined malt character and a touch of hops for a clean finish.

It’s a daunting undertaking to replace a beer that has the history and love that Christian Moerlein’s ‘Select Lager’ did when the brewery sent it packing in 2008. The new Lager House Helles was more than up to the task, though.  The beer is an ode to traditional German Lagers, and tips its hat to the German ancestory that Moerlein’s soul rests on.

My Thoughts On Christian Moerlein Lager House Helles

This beer is Golden yellow, with a nice, foamy, white head.

Aromas are full of grainy cereals, and a hint of a breadiness, there is little hop blast, which can be refreshing in this world of IPA saturation that we live in.

The taste is smooth, well rounded and malty sweet.  I get a ton of those cereal notes, which leaves me wanting to drink this with a big heavy dinner – a fitting experience considering the Lager House’s fantastic menu.  You should pair this with your next burger as soon as possible.
