They’ve been pegged by a lot of people as “super traditional”, and slow to move on new beers, but we might be looking at a new era for the brewery that to many people represents the real start of this current wave of craft breweries in Cincinnati.

They’re on the cusp of a big taproom expansion (and beer garden expansions too) which you’ll be hearing a lot about in the near future, here and elsewhere.  It looks like they are using this time in their life to embrace another side of craft beer that they’ve only previously dabbled in – fun taproom exclusives, one-off beers, trendy releases, and the new.

The Exclusives

You’ve really got to be watching brewery’s social media channels for the updated lists of what fun taproom exclusives are being tapped.  From a watermelon basil blonde ale, to bananas foster and a peach cobbler ale – there’s already been some really great stuff.  This is how the Blueberry hibiscus ale that has already become a summer staple for a lot of people was born, so make sure if you fall in love with something to let them know and tell all your friends about it.

As for what else you can expect this month from this series that they are calling the ‘Brew TriALEs:

  • May 11 – Cherry Cream
  • May 18 – Blackberry Peanut Butter Jam
  • May 25 – Berries ‘n Cream Ale

Sounds pretty delicious… right?

The Newest Bottle

This summer Mt. Carmel is banking it on their latest creation, a session IPA that they’re calling ‘Take Home IPA’.  It clocks in at a fairly easy drinking 5.25% ABV with 44 IBUs and packs a fresh summery hop whallop from Cascade, Citra and Zythos hops.

The trio of Northern Pacific hops deliver an intense tropical flavor and aroma, according to the brewery.  It should be appearing on draft already around town, and in bottles in the next couple weeks as well.  I can promise that as soon as I get my hands on some, I’ll have Tasting Notes for it up on here.  Actually, on that note, if you haven’t gotten your hands on their new summer seasonal bottle from this year, yet, you should do that too.  Hops and Wheat has been making my household pretty happy lately as the weather seems to start to be warming up – and you should snag some while it’s on shelves.
