Call them whatever you want to call them, North East IPA, New England IPA, Hazy IPA – they’re here to stay, clearly.  On top of that, they’re sort of popular with drinkers these days.  Can releases for NE IPAs in Cincinnati have become a major thing, with Listermann dominating the space (having a release every month) and Streetside kicking major ass with their first release (which is going to be followed up with more this summer).

With all these hazy IPAs being released in cans, and on tap around town – people keep asking, when is one of the “big Cincy players” going to put one out in packaging?  I think we have our answer – Rhinegeist is planning to blow some minds with this.

They’re collaborating with Pipeworks out of Chicago to can a hazy IPA.

Who’s Pipeworks?

Pipeworks is a brewery out of Chicago – founded in 2012, they made a big name for themselves with an approach that leaned towards one-off beers, with a new beer being released every single week.  You might have seen them at some of the Rhinegeist festivals before (hopgeist, I believe).

The brewery has a fantastic cult following in their hometown – their startup was helped along by more than $30,000 of Kickstarter money, and this along with their fantastic beer helped to win them a ‘Best New Brewery’ distinction from RateBeer in 2012.

Since opening they’ve been growing exponentially, with their new production facility housing an on-site bottle shop for their releases, called the Dojo.

About The Beer

I know why you’re here… you wanna know about this hazy IPA.  Keep in mind, all this in unconfirmed reports, and as with all label approvals – none of this is set in stone, and no guarantees exist that this will even be made… so with that in mind – the description on the can reads:

Brewed in collaboration with Pipeworks in Chicago – this rocket ship of an IPA roams the silent realms of space, searching for home.  Astro Dwarf is malt fueled with oat & wheat, and aromatized with a veritable maelstrom of Galaxy, Mosaic & Hallertau Blanc hops.  Space candy, astronomical tropics, post-apocalyptic dankness; there is no gravity here.

The beer is called Astro Dwarf – and it comes in at 6% ABV with 60 IBUs.

The can is the standard 12ozer that you’re familiar with from Rhinegeist (I would have loved to see them go to the 16oz cans that we are all so familiar with when it comes to these Hazy IPAs, just for shits and giggles.  If you look at the label art, it’s a fun one.  They used the standard can design, but filled the “Stripe” with a really great space scene… with hop ships and all.  It’s beautiful, and I can’t wait to see it printed on a can!

As always… I’ll try my hardest to keep you up to date as I get more information about this beer!
