It’s not just a beer, this collaboration from MadTree and Heavy Seas is designed to help bring awareness (and raise funds) for clean water and conservation as well.  Not only are we getting a new beer to drink, but the brewery is setting up a number of events around town, too, making sure we’ve got the best places and situations to do so in.

About The Beer

I’m sure that you’ve heard of Baltimore’s Heavy Seas Brewing.  Cavalier distributing makes sure that they get their fair due here around Cincinnati, and they’re putting out some really great stuff (Tropicanon anyone?)  It’s pretty exciting then when you hear that they’re teaming up with our very own MadTree brewing to see what they can come up with.  The collaboration is part of Heavy Seas’ ‘Partnerships Series’ which features beers in collaboration with other regionally and nationally recognized brewers in the spirit of friendship, creativity, and adventure.

What they came up with was a Scottish Ale that uses a fun twist to bring locally sourced ingredients from both locations into the mix.  Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company teamed up with Deeper Roots Coffee to select and roast two different coffees, these were paired up with Maverick Chocolate’s cocoa nibs to use in the beer.

This Wee Heavy came out at 8.25% ABV with 25 IBUs, and used Golden Promise, Roasted Barley, Double Roast Crystal, Chocolate Rye alongside UK Goldings Hops to pair up next to the Ethiopian Harrar and Burundi Mpanga coffees and the cocoa nibs.

You’ll be able to find this collaboration on draft around town, as well as in 22oz bombers in your favorite beer stores if you’re looking to take it home.

Clean Water Fund and Earth Share Ohio

The breweries both partnered up with Clean Water Fund and Earth Share Ohio to use this collaboration as an opportunity to raise funds and awareness for water management and conservation.  Locally, they’be got a few events planned to tap the beer and try to make an impact on both the funds supported.
