Every time beer geeks in Cincinnati get together and talk about Sam Adams, there’s bound to be a couple of things that you’ll hear.  #1 – Someone is going to talk about how underrated this brewery is, and how surprised they were the last time they picked up something from them.  #2 – Someone is going to talk about how under-represented they are in Cincinnati, and how a taproom here in town next to their massive brewery would do wonders to fix that.

Good news – the rumors are true, Sam Adams is opening a taproom here in Cincinnati by the fall of this year.

The press release just hit my inbox, and I’ll apologize in advance, you’re going to see a LOT of people reporting on this – but I had to share it with you regardless, this is fantastic news that I can’t keep to myself just because everyone’s going to be bombarding your social media about with it.

The Details

The new taproom is going to be located across the street from where the brewery lies on Central Parkway at the entrance to Findlay Market at the Urban Sites’ Film Center Project.

The taproom will be nearly 9000 square feet, with its own brewery, and will feature indoor and outdoor spaces, providing drinkers a “fun and inviting space to enjoy a wide variety of unique beers”.  You’ll be able to take home growlers and crowlers of your favorite brews, like the Cincinnati, inspired 513 ale and Boston lager (of course!).  You’ll see lots of the design elements of the new space to take inspiration from the rich history and brewing heritage of Cincinnati.

They’re going to release plenty more details as the construction gets underway and completion is definitely time dependent on securing permits and construction to take place as scheduled (you know how these things work by now) – but this is really fun news.  The quote in the press release from Jim Koch sums it up pretty well:

“We’ve been dreaming of opening a tap room in the neighborhood since we purchased the brewery 21 years ago, so we could share our beers with local drinkers. However, our main focus up until now has been to continue to improve and enhance our brewery capabilities.  Now, I’m thrilled to see this dream finally become a reality. Cincinnati is my hometown with such a rich brewing history and I’ve seen our city blossom as a craft beer mecca that is home to some of the finest breweries and tap rooms in the country.  The goal for our new tap room is to offer beer enthusiasts in the area a cool place to hang out while they enjoy some really unique and interesting beers made right here in Cinci.  I look forward to sharing a beer with our neighbors in a few months!”

Stay tuned.  I am thrilled to finally add them to my list of what I consider Cincinnati craft breweries this year.
