Large quantities of malted oats and kettle additions of Mosaic and Simcoe hops get this cloudy beauty rolling, followed by an El Dorado double dry-hop. Tropical fruit notes are complemented by a hint of dankness.
Nebulosity made it’s first debut (if my impeccable notes are correct) in the spring of 2018. Taft’s was on a bit of an obsessive quest to not just brew up a fantastic one of these new Hazy IPAs… or NE IPAs… or whatever you want to call them. They wanted to tear the style apart and really understand what makes it tick. They didn’t want to brew something up that had haze and hops just for the sake of having haze and hops.
After a ton of tweaking to their creations, we were left with this release… Nebulosity. The brewery let these cans loose into our collective beer fridges in mid-August 2018. The beautiful, space themed cans became a quick hit with IPA lovers all across Cincinnati.
My Thoughts On Taft’s Nebulosity
In the glass, Nebulosity still looks like a beer – it’s over the top in the haze department, leaving it looking like a glass of orange juice. The copper/orange beer is topped with a thick foamy head that lingers throughout the whole drink.
I get a delicous facefull of wonderful citrus aromas that again, let you know that this is an IPA through and through. It’s scent is nothing if not fresh and bold.
The taste is medium bodied, smooth and easy drinking, with some really great topical fruit that backs up the slight bitter pine and citrus flavors. This maintains a bitter note that West Coast IPA lovers will rejoice in, while also putting forth a fantastic juiciness that NE or Hazy IPA lovers will fall head over heels for. It’s the best of both worlds, and you can taste the effort that went into developing this recipe.
