Shumrick & Leys was a local distillery located in Norwood though that wasn’t how they started out their story… and its definitely not how they ended it, either.

The distillery started out their life in a barn, pursuing a passion for the art of distilling. Head distiller Terry Shumrick spent much of his career making wine, and that history and experience brought him to make some really innovative and interesting products, like his Bourvin – a whiskey aged in wine barrels. It also carried the distillery from their start in that barn to a new tasting room in Norwood which opened in 2017.

The distillery, with it’s two separate copper pot stills, 100 and 200 gallons each churned along, creating traditional spirits that were packed with flavor that you can’t recreate on a cleaner column still.

The innovation and creatively – along with the hard work – that Terry and his partners put into the business led them to be purchased, and rebranded in 2018 as Robert James Distillery – and while the purchase also closed down their tasting room in Norwood – it brought forth a lot of new, fun changes that I think you’ll enjoy exploring!
